For example, street lighting costs have increased by 10%, fuel costs have increased by 20% and fire suppression costs, driven primarily by fire suppression supplies, have increased by 15%.
In addition, the province did a re-assessment on all properties. Your taxes are based on a formula which is made up of the mill rate and your assessed property value.
As for the education portion of your municipal tax bill, the school board has control over setting their own rate, and the municipality simply collects those funds and forwards them to the division.
