Council Talk, February 13, 2006

THAT, the Town hired Uni-jet Industrial Pipe Services to flush, vacuum, grease cut and televise sewer lines. The cost for this service was $11,005.56.

THAT, the public works department undertakes snow clearing throughout the night because there are fewer parked cars and less traffic. By doing this, it is not only more efficient, but is also much safer.

QUESTION OF THE WEEK: What is the total Town budget this year?

ANSWER: Council is underway with setting the budget. The process begins with setting priorities and reviewing operating needs. We then define costs, both capital & operating, allow for contributions to the reserve funds and come up with the final total of dollars needed. There is a formula we use to determine our mill rate, which is based on the total Town assessment. And, as in other years, Council only sets the mill rate; the assessment of your property is done through the Provincial Government Assessment Branch. The Town also has no involvement with the School tax portion of your bill expect that we collect it on behalf of the Division.
