Spring/Fall Cleanup is during the week starting the day after the May and October long weekends. The north side of town pick up is on Tuesday, and the south side of town pick up is on Thursday. Please be aware of the regulations, requirements, and guidelines for pick up. Full details may be obtained by acquiring by-law 1577/05 from the town office, 639 Park Avenue, Beausejour, Manitoba.

Sorting of Wastes

All waste items left out for pick-up must be sorted into separate distinct piles.

  1. Metallic items and/or items made up largely of metal must be placed in one separate pile.
  2. Burnable items such as bundled unpainted wood, bundled wood cuttings, and bundled tree branches must be placed in another separate pile.
  3. All other bulky wastes must be placed in their own separate pile. Piles must be neat and accessible for handling and loading.

Loose Materials

All loose materials must be placed in suitable containers and/or tied in bundles for disposal.

  1. Tree cuttings not exceeding 4 inches in diameter must be tied in bundles not exceeding 100 pounds and 3 feet in length.
  2. Tree trimmings/branches must be tied in bundles no more than 4 feet in length and weighing no more than 75 pounds.
  3. Other loose waste must be placed in closed containers strong enough to be handled without breaking and weighing no more than 75 pounds. Containers should be less than 5 cubic feet in volume.

Sharp Objects

  1. All sharp objects (eg. broken glass, knives, nails, needles) must be placed un puncture proof containers with lids. Containers should be less than 5 cubic feeet and weigh no more than 75 pounds.
  2. Any waste lumber and/or like material must have all nails and/or staples removed.

Construction, Renovation, and Demolition Wastes

Section 8.1 of by-law no. 1577/05 states:

“Every person shall dispose of construction and demolition waste, at there own expense, at the Waste Disposal Site.”

  1. Small amounts of renovation wastes can be put out for disposal provided it does not exceed one cubic yard in volume, and is properly placed in closed containers 5 cubic feet in volume and/or bundled in bundles not exceeding 4 feet in length and weighing more than 75 pounds.
  2. No windows, or window units will be accepted.

Hazardous Wastes

The Town will not collect any hazardous wastes, nor should any hazardous wastes be put at the curside for disposal.

  1. Hazardous Wastes being defined as: “any waste that may present a hazard to a person in contact with such wastes and includes, but is not limited to, waste such as propane cylindersm petroleum distillates, light fuels, household waste paints, caustic, drugs, acute hazardous waste chemicals, waste crankcase oils and lubricants, inorganic chemicals, halogenated pesticides and herbicides, non-halogenated organic pesticides and any other wastes of pathological, explosivem highly flammable, radioactive, toxic or acidic in nature” This also includes both wet and dry cell batteries.
  2. Bulky Wastes containing chlorofluorocarbons, or other ozone depleting substances, (eg. fridges, deep freezes, air conditioning units, dehumidifiers) must have the chlorofluorocarbons removed by a certified tradesman as stipulated under provincial regulation prior to collection. The Town shall not collect bulky wastes containing chlorofluorocarbons, or other ozone depleting substances, unless the bulky waste has a certification sticker indicating that chloroflurocarbons have been removed.

Out of Town Bulky Wastes

The Spring/Fall Cleanup is provided for the convenience of residents who reside within the corporate limits of the Town of Beausejour. Anyone who resides outside these limits, who is caught and/or observed depositing waste within these limits will be charged to the full extend of the Penalities outlined in by-law no. 1577/05.

Items left behind
Wastes left out at the curb for pick-up that do not meet the criteria set out under the Regulations, Requirements and Guilde lines will be left behind along with a notice indicating the reason for not being picked up.  Residents will be granted a second chance to correct the reason for non-compliance before the date stated and notifying the Town Office at 268-7550.  All waste material not removed by the data stated will be removed at the Property Owners Expense.

General

The general intend of the Spring and FAll Clean-up events is to provide residents of the Town of Beausejour an opportunity to dispose of their “Bulky Wastes”, which are not part of normal waste collection.

By-law No. 1577/05 being the By-law governing collection and disposal of solid waste, defines Bulky Wastes as:

“-means large items of refuse including appliances, furniture, auto parts and large crates, each not exceeding 45 kilograms (100 pounds) in weight, tree cuttings not exceeding 100millimeters (4 inches) in diameter in bundles not exceeding 35 kilograms (75 pounds) in weight.”

Collection Information Picks Up Times

  1. Bulky Wastes placed out for pick-up in the North end must e out by the curb no later than 7:00 am Tuesday, after the May or October long weekend.
  2. Bulky Wastes placed out for pick-up in the South end must be out by the curb no later than 7:00 am Thursday, after the May or October long weekend.

Note: Once the pick-up crews have gone down your street, they will not return to pick up any items put out after the above appointed times.

Pick-up Location

Bulky Waste for pick-up must be placed at the curb in front of your residence for pick-up.  It is the responsibilit of every resident to make their own arrangements to have the waste for pick-up placed at the curb.  Town crews will not enter onto private property.

Snowmobilers’ Welcome in the Town of Beausejour

By the authority of the Town of Beausejour By-Law 1449/00, the following regulations have been enacted:

  • Snowmobiles are permitted to operate on all residential streets, EXCLUDING Park Avenue and First Street North.
  • Snowmobiles may share the roadways with other vehicular traffic, PROVIDING that all the regulations of the Criminal Code, the Highway Traffic Act, the Off Road Vehicles Act, and the By-Law are adhered to.
  • Snowmobile traffic is only permitted on snow covered residential streets between October 15th and April 15th of the following year
  • Snowmobiles shall not be operated within the community of Beausejour between the hours of 11:00pm and 7:00am.
  • Maximum speed of 50 KPH shall apply.
